I have got permission to make a choir piece on a text by Bob Dylan, or actually on the Norwegian translation on the text.
i mysteriets hav.
Å søster, når jeg har en stein i min kropp,
vær da den vennen som jeg trenger.
Tid er et hav til en kyst dukker opp,
snart fins jeg ikke her lenger. ( Kjell-Ivar Sandvik )
Other first performance!
22 October
Next friday, the 30 october people that are free for lunch (12.00) can vistit the dome church in Tromsø to listen to the wind ensemble from the conservatory in Tromsø. Among the pieces they will play, there will be Morgengruss which is a odd piece from me, since it is a rewritten piece by Schubert, but it is not a plain arrangement. It is rewritten for Soprano and wind ensemble, and the orgigial st was for tenor and piano, using a form that I have expanded a bit.
First performance!
20 october 2009
In march ( 14th) my Trans-neptunian Spatial for symphony orchestra will be performed by Tromsø city orchestra.
Untitled #1 delivered at SMIC
28 August 2009
Untitled #1
-for Cl, Pf, 2vl, vla vlc.
(dur. 12,5´)
This piece has been in my drawer for a long time and is finaly revised and in a good shape! Read comment to the piece here.
NEW PIECE!/Performance in September!
20 August 2009
Why are Wild Boars wild?
-for mixed chamber orchestra.
(dur. 5")
In september (20th ) my new piece will be performed by young musicians from Norway and Russia, in a cooperation with the department for music dance and drama in Tromsø.
This piece is a regular educational piece and the aim is that the music shall inspire the young generation to play more non-traditional music. The fact that the new generation gets involved in other music than the classical repertoir is very important for the future. It is also supposed to be a fun piece to play so I wrote it for; Wind instruments, Piano, Harpsicord, Drum set, and strings. Wild Boars are the pig that lives in the forest and that Asterix and Obelix eats for dinner!
NEW PIECE!!!!
1 July 2009
Off road for 2 vl. (dur. 4.30")
Completed during this spring to compete in a competition with music for 2 violins. The piece had no luck in the competition but since I have lots of other areas where this piece might fit it is rather conveniant to participate in a situation where you have a deadline and a situation where you really want to do your best. Off road is possible to buy at the Swedish music information centre.
NEW PIECE!!!!
15 April 2009
-Morgengruss-
by Schubert/Hansén
for wind ensemble and soprano.
This piece is a recomposition in a rather unconventinal but still traditional manner of the song Morgengruss by Franz Shubert. I was struck by the form that Shubert uses in the song to express the content of the poem. Then I just enlarged this formal idea in my piece by expanding the musical possbilities a little bit more. The piece will soon be published on sibeliusmusic.com
First performance in Duluth, Minnesota
25 March 2009
I just got the message that the wonderful musicians, Duo Gelland will perform my new piece for Violin duo, Semplice 2, which I wrote to them this winter, in Concordia Lutheran Church in Duluth, Minnesota on the 7 April.
Semplice 2 is a very short and unpretentious piece, just like the first Semplice 1. Although simple as the titel implies it needs very good and creative musicians, like the Gelland Duo.
Rhyme or Resistance? -delivered at SMIC
23 March 2009
Today i finally delivered Rhyme or Resistance, for singers at the Swedish Music Information Centre. It´s only 1 (one) page of music, and one melody line, but in a true minimalistic manner the piece can last for a long time. In the performance a couple of weeks ago one set lasted over 25 minutes without the singers noticing that. It can be performed anywhere by singers (at least 6) and it can be seen as a performance piece but also a piece for the musician, more than for the audience.
NEW PIECE!!!!!!
Songs for lonesome strangers, for female choir
17 March 2009
Today i finally finished my choir pieces for Arctic light. Songs for lonesome strangers, for female choir. The piece contains poems with lyrics from Tom Sexton, Alaska, Tomi Kontio, Finland, Ogdo Aksenova, Sibiria, Gunnar Svensson, Sweden. All poems have a strong nature perspective, with lots of love for mother nature. It will be published on sibeliusmusic.com.
First performance
13 March 2009
Rhyme or resistance? was premiered as a cooperation with the dutch composer cluster Lüdkamer at the new music festival KOntAK. The piece lasted about 40 minutes and the singers who performed it ( students from the conservatory) seemed to be delighted by the experience. The piece is written mainly for the interpreter, but the audience seemed to enjoy it too.

5 Arctic Poems
for female Choir
Since the beginning of december I´m working on 5 Arctic poems which will be 5 pieces for female choir. The music is based on text by poets living and working in the far north. So far I have written two pieces of wich one is a poem by Tom Sexton from Anchorage, Alaska. I guess the music will be availiable from the beginning of next year.
Fluxus & Fishes
for Trio (Clarinet, Sop. Saxophone, Piano)
2 december 2008
Today I finished a small trio for two winds and piano. In this piece I take further steps in developing my own style of neo-harmonicism, in wich I use a form of cadences. Consonances and dissonances connected to a harmony which is more than unclear but still tonal. The piece is written to a constellation of young students who will perform it in Tromsö on the 12th of december in the dome church.
NEW/REVISED PIECE is delivered at SMIC
15 NOVEMBER 2008
It is now possible to rent or purchase Trans-neptunian Spatial from the Swedish music information centre. The piece is 13´min. and very well suited for amateur orchestras and youth orchestras. It is rather lyrical and contains three movements that are in the time format of Pop songs like 3-4 min long.
2 New Challenges!
28 October
It´s time to start focusing on two new pieces for Euphonium and miscellanous instruments. My collegue at the conservatory the distingueshed euphonium player Geir Davidsen has asked me if I want to write two pieces for him in combination with a small chamber orchestra and secondly a larger orchestra. In a close cooperation with him. He is working on his doctor grade and it will be a cooperation that is part of his doctor grade. Very exiting. I am thrilled by the opportunity to write two different pieces after another for the same instrument/musician and the possibilities that lies within that. I will beginn working after Christmas with this. Commissioners/orchestras from Norway or Sweden, or the world, are kindly invited in the project!
Triple falling was performed
11 october 2008
Yesterday evening my trombone concerto no. 1; Triple falling was performed at Verdensteatret in Tromsø. Actually it was my debut as a composer in Tromsø and I was very pleased by the way the Orchestra, Tromsø symphony orchestra and Jørgen van Rijen under the guidance of Håkon Nystedt challenged my score. After the concert Jørgen told me that he gladly would play the piece again. Lets see if some Norwegian or Swedish orchestra takes the opportunity to welcome one of the best trombone players in the world. On his repertoire he has furthermore some other Swedish concertos, by my former professor Jan Sandström, Mats Larson Gothe and the old concertino by Lars-Erik Larsson. So now I may be in a very good company! You never know.

NEW PIECE!!!!
29 July 2008
Last week I finished my Trombone Concerto Triple falling. It has three movements and is written for Trombone solo and string orchestra; minimum 6,5,4,3,2 strings. The duration is 13 minuts and the movements are called; -In love, -for Mr Polonium and -Into Oblivion. The three part are all about the same: That everything goes to hell anyway. SO WHY BOTHER? Well that answer (whatever it is) is the key to...

It is now defenitive that Jörgen van Rijen will be the soloist in my trombone concerto. He plays the principal trombone in the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam.
Triple Falling is under way
21 April 2008
My small trombone concerto
Triple falling which will have its premiere at
Arctic trombone and low Brass festival, this autumn is now being processed in my brain and my heart. The first movement is almost finished and it will be a beutiful piece. It should be, since the first movement will be called
Falling in love, like some old jazz standard or something. It´s filled with jazz chords with lots of interesting and unusual progressions.
13 April 2008
World Premier anyone?
Trans-Neptunia Spatial is a three part piece that I wrote in 2005 for a quartet of Musicians who performs tango and other types on nonconventional "classical music". The piece has been in my desk for a couple of years and has never been performed before. So here is a chance to a world premier! The piece is written for Soprano Sax, Violin, Accordion and Piano.
The piece in now avaliable, published on STIM/MIC where you can buy it.
There is also a version for Symphony Orchestra that Im still working on. It will soon pe published. Comment to the piece.

Educational music published on Sibeliusmusic.com
My first educational pieces for piano Mini Music I, can now be viewed and bought at Sibeliusmusic.com. I will publish non concert music like this on this home page since it has a broader public value than typical concert music.
This includes some lighter pieces that can be adequate for ensembles or orchestras with young musicians.
Im very fond of the service that the Swedish Music Information Centre (MIC) offers us Swedish composers so for that reason I don´t intend to publish scores that has a professional intention on that site.

POWERTY
- Inspired by Gavin Bryars -
Yesterday a short wind quintet was completed. It´s called POWERTY -inspired by Gavin Bryars-, and I wrote it to some collegues at Høgskolen i Tromsø. [POWER+POVERTY]
Many years ago I heard a piece by Gavin Bryars which at the time made an impression on me. It was the piece "Jesus´ blood"...
The piece consist of a recording of an old man who sings a choral: "Jesus blood never failed me yet, never failed me yet." In the background there is a string ensemble playing an ostinato over and over again. The piece is long, especially when you think about the fact that the ostinato that is repeated over and over again is so short.
My piece is not long, neither does it use the same ostinato technique. It´s only like a memory where I try to remember a feeling that I had when I first heard the piece 15 years ago.
A part of this feeling is captured in a short cadenza which is repeated and altered through the 6 min long piece.
I think the piece will be played by Hilde Blix and her friends at a small festival in Tromsø called KONTAK.
