Since this week it is the time of darkness here in the north of Norway. The sun will rise again above the horizon in the end of january. This is the first time I write something on my site since I began working here. There has been a lot of work the last months.

I teach at the conservatoire. It´s a small but nice school with collegues who has built up a god reputation in my field; ear training. 

So what do I write at the moment? Im currently working on three small pieces. One wind quintet for some collegues at the conservatoire. A small concerto for violin and chamber orchestra, and I also started to prepare a longer piece for choir. It will be difficult but I have a good and interesting idea.

Besides that I try to do the last of some corrections to my first symphony which was finished this spring. It´s a three parts long piece with a small prologue before the real music begins. They say that the last piece is always the best, and in this case it is more than just to underline that fact.

You really know when you have surpassed yourself.  The piece is for a standard symphony orchestra, with trippel woodwinds and a normal brass section. I also use a piano, a harp and two percussionists. It is 26 minutes long.

Since I began composing songs for the rock band I played in, at the age of fourteen, I have had a vision of writing music for big orchestras, but I was never really convinced that I could get to the point where I really could manage to deal with such an apparatus. Now I have reached a level of understanding that really gives me a feeling that it was worth believing. I´m very satisfied.
